Perfume Project , Incense

Currently in Applied Arts I am following the theme of perfume and have turned to smoke and incense for inspiration for surface pattern, I really liked the outcome of the photographs I have taken and the patterns made by the smoke.

Experimentation with colour shape &texture

The photographs are examples of experimentation with colour texture and shape, I tried to use the camera without using the viewfinder or screen so that the focus was not on the composition of the picture but the textures or shapes I wanted to photograph. After the photographs were taken I ran them through photoshop to experiment with altering and layering the images.

I found the experience of taking these photos and modelling for them interesting, the aim of the exercise was to capture natural facial expressions and gestures to move away from the traditional portrait poses. To achieve this aim we engaged the model in conversation to distract them from the situation whilst taking the photographs and thus avoid traditional 'photo faces'

In trying to capture the essence of Chesterfield in just 1 hour I found that I was drawn to take 2 different types of photos, the first was of the people in Chesterfield and the atmosphere they create and is shown in the photos above.
